Independence Square

Independence Square is almost two acres in size and is directly north of City Hall in downtown Maitland. It is the home of many of the primary events in the community including the Movie in the Park series and others hosted by the Park and Recreation Department. A strong argument could be made that Independence Square is situated on the most historical piece of property in Maitland. It has been home to every City Hall since the town's inception, the first train station in the area was located on the northwest corner of this property until 1969, and was once home of not only the City's Fire Department and Administration, but the Maitland Police Department had also been located here until 2011. In 2020, the property was updated with new bathrooms, an attractive water feature, enhanced landscaping, and an event lawn for downtown festivals. Park hours are 8am to 10pm daily. This facility is not available to rent for private functions.
