Facility Details

Independence Square is a nearly two-acre park located directly north of City Hall in downtown Maitland. It hosts many of the community’s signature events, including the Movie in the Park series, the Maitland Jazz and Blues Festival, and other events presented by the Parks and Recreation Department.

The park occupies one of Maitland’s most historically significant properties. The site has hosted every City Hall since the town’s establishment, the area’s first train station, and former facilities for the City’s Fire, Administration, and Police departments. The Maitland Police Department remained there until 2011.

In 2020, the park received new restrooms, a decorative water feature, improved landscaping, and an event lawn for downtown festivals.

The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., except on City-recognized holidays. Independence Square is not available to rent for private functions.
